The modern symptothermal Method has nothing in common with outdated rhythm or temperature methods!

Menstruation: 1 day of heavy menstruation to start a new cycle = 1 sign |
 |
Temperature: + 4 days of consistent temperature taking spread over no more than 6 days (green cover line)
+ 3 days of elevated temperatures after the first four (will appear as stars on your chart) = 7 signs |
 |
Elixir: + 2 mucus signs that, as a combination, clearly indicate that peak day occurred. TOTAL: 10 signs |
With these 10 signs, sympto can accurately determine your fertility so you have the information you need to make smart reproductive choices. sympto uses the ten signs in a cross-checking way; basically, three days if a reliable upward temperature shift plus with one of four possible mucus combinations ( and or and or and or and ) indicates that you are past peak day and the fertile part of your cycle. Cycles that do not contain these 10 elements or which remain in the first phase of the cycle, are not really cycles, but anovulatory passages.
The first sign, the is easy to recognize. After this, you are infertile until the "Doring/Roetzer" Day, which is calculated according to your own individual trends but which is generally around Day 6 or 7 of your cycle.
By taking your temperature each morning before becoming active for the day, you should easily determine the temperature signs. The upward shift days will be marked automatically by stars on your chart.
You should check for mucus signs at least daily in the restroom. Read the icon descriptions carefully and pick the best match for what you saw. If you observe more than one type or are unsure, pick the most fertile option that seems correct for that day. Generally the stretchier and more liquid the mucus is, the more fertile it also is.
While these 10 signs are really all that is needed each month, entering as much information as possible each day is recommended as it will give you the clearest picture of your overall fertility and reproductive health. Additionally, creating your individual cycle profile will allow sympto counselors to provide more accurate assistance specific to your individual situation.
You will start in the default Pilot Mode and will be required to enter mucus observations (or that no mucus was observed) each time you enter a temperature reading. In Expert Mode you will no longer be required to do this, but it is still encouraged. Pilot Mode also features many helpful messages from sympto to help you interpret your data and stay on track.
Don't forget that you can contact sympto counsellors anytime in the first two weeks for free and anytime after that with a paid subscription if you have any questions. There is also a ton of information on the sympto.ch website. Check out the FAQ section and you may discover that many other women have the same questions as you!
In conclusion: sympto is more precise that any ST specialist when it comes to accept or reject a problematic temperature rise, sympto is more effective for cross checking the sings and faster to determine the Döring/Rötzer day. But there is no black box magic. sympto is not a medical device (black box magic) but a didactical tool. You alone must know how and when to discard a past parasite temperature which does not skew the interpretation or to adjust other past observations.
